One Day Tour from Samara Beach. Palo Verde Tour Guanacaste Costa Rica

Palo Verde Tour

Two tours in one day! Includes a boat ride to see Palo Verde and a visit to Guaitil (a village of artisans)

Palo Verde National Park contains the largest areas of wetlands in Costa Rica and one of the best examples of tropical dry forests in Central America. The Park has these two eco-systems as a direct result of the Tempisque River flooding over the surrounding land.  Paloe Verde is located between the Rios Tempisque and Bebedero.

The tour is organised as a day trip from Samara and land transport will take you to the river. You will get to admire this quiet park from the comfort of a boat with an experienced nature guide. Along the river wildlife is Frequently spotted such such as huge crocodiles, monkeys and beautiful tropical birds.

Birds are the main attractions of Palo Verde and the many birds listed include: Cattle Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Green-backed Herons, Anhingas, Great Egrets, and Black-crowned Night-Herons to breed as well as White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Black-necked Stilt, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Snail Kite, American Widgeon, Northern Shoveler, and Blue-winged Teal. Migrant birds from the Americas are attracted to the large marshlands during the wetter seasons and then depart for their summer nesting areas.

Mammals are easier to see in the drier season near the river and include various monkeys including Howler and White-Throated Capuchins.  Also see are deer, squirrels, coatis and peccaries.

It takes about 2 hours to get to Palo Verde but this includes stops to see places of interest. You will then spend two hours on the boat and lunch at the river, before going to Guaitil. This is collection of craft souvenirs to look at (not a pottery museum or demonstration necessarily). Then it is 1 hour to return to Samara.
